During June 1997, an exhibition was held at the Castle Mall in Norwich of Mr Michael Innes' suggestions of how a hospital with similar footprint to that at Colney could be accommodated on the existing St Stephen's Road site : A 'comments' book was provided and some 1,540 of the comments are listed below.

Identification is by initial only. Where possible the home of the person is indicated. Sometimes the writing was too difficult to read and here a "?" has been substituted.

The original can be viewed by anyone interested - get in touch with 'Keep Our Hospital in Norwich''.

It is also possible to view a petition with about 40,000 signatures, but for this you will have to apply to South Norfolk District Council who have it locked away in their offices.

ROB Norwich - There is no point in moving a hospital that is fine where it is.

P Norwich - Moving the hospital out of Norwich could cost lives, there is NO point.

SL North Walsham - Where I live there is no proper access to Colney. So I think the N&N should stay.

MFT Poringland - I feel the hospital is best situated in the city where it is.

BEM Flordon - The hospital is for the people. The people are in and around the city. Some have to use public transport.

SG Norwich - Please keep the N&N hospital in the city where everyone can come.

JG Norwich - The hospital is ideally placed - keep it where it is. Elderly & young cannot get to Colney.

AC Taverham - The hospital must be kept in the city.

PM & SS Norwich - The N&N should definitely be kept in Norwich, it is a waste of money to build at Colney.

JC Norwich - I consider that the N&N should stay ??? the ??? of Norwich.

Mrs G Thorpe - This hospital is needed for people like myself with osteo of the spine who have to rely on taxis and it is going to cost me the earth to travel to Colney.

RCP Taverham - We must keep the hospital in Norwich city because it is easy access for everyone and not everyone has personal transport to get to Colney. I really do not agree with the waste of a building - extend the one you have got.

RS Catton - Keeping the Hospital makes it accessible for all Norwich residents.

MB Norwich - Illegible!

Mr & Mrs H Norwich - We must keep the hospital in Norwich, it is the place for it to be. I am sure that it is what the people want.

NW Sprowston - Colney is on a green site. It is wrong for the hospital to be constructed in a place where damage to the environment will take place. It is most important to keep the N&N in Norwich.

BA Norwich - Consent was given for a second hospital - no-one knew that it was to be the only hospital for Norwich and Norfolk. Its retention having been demonstrated to be practicable and cost effective the proposal should be reconsidered immediately.

NA - I had to attend for blood tests at the N&N at 9am. This would have been impossible by public transport. Also the interest costs on the hospital will be high in the years to come.

JH Strumpshaw - The hospital must be kept in the city for environmental and access.

A - The N&N is best placed in the centre of town.

DF Norwich - I think it is well placed as everyone can get to it.

MB Norwich - Keep it in Norwich.

RC & CC - Keep it in Norwich.

JW - Improve the existing site.

CA - A lot safer knowing there is a hospital round the corner.

Mr & Mrs AR Trowse - We want the Hospital to remain in the city.

CN Norwich - Keep the hospital in the city where it is accessible to everyone unlike Colney which just suits the doctors.

STL Long Stratton - Keep the hospital in the city to be convenient to the public who use it.

SL Sprowston - Please! Please! keep the hospital in the city for us to have easy transport there. Please. Thanks.

NAC Norwich - This is important to the city centre to keep it alive. Keep people coming to the city centre!!!

ME Norwich - It is very important to everybody to be kept in the city.

AB Stoke Holy Cross - Please, please keep the N&N in Norwich. It is so important the voice of the little people must be heard!!!

CAS Norwich -Keep it in the city. It is most ? place and for those who don't drive.

Mr & Mrs B Norwich - Please keep our hospital in the city. We don't want to go to Colney.

EV Norwich - Spend the money on the good hospital we already have.

CW Norwich - Keep N&N hospital in Norwich. Reason travel expense and time.

MDF Horning - Easier access.

JA Acle - We need it in Norwich - the elderly must get easy access.

JTB Stoke Holy Cross - To make use of the N&N within the city centre makes sense in every way. Easy reach of all patients is essential.

O & PR Thorpe - Keep in city.

MW Norwich - Keep it in the city. It has always been there.

DW Norwich - Keep the hospital where it is. I can't see why it needs to be moved.

SW Sprowston - A hospital should remain in a city for people without cars. The journey is too long for people to keep appointments

Mrs R Catton - As an OAP I feel it should not even be considered to move from the city.

TEA - Keep it where i t belongs.

Mr & Mrs B Palgrave - Keep the hospital. It's the right place. Keep the hospital in Norwich.

KF Norwich - Keep hospital local in Norwich

AS Norwich - Keep the hospital in the most sensible place - centre of Norwich.

FS Norwich - Why move it?

JH Norwich - We have been let down by our MPs.

Mr & Mrs W Norwich - Should Stay in City.

EJL Norwich - Ditto.

EG Norwich - Ditto.

SJL Norwich - Ditto.

C Brundall - Ditto.

LL Swainsthorpe - Ditto.

SS Norwich - Hospitals are for patients and their needs and they are best served when a hospital is central for access. If the hospital moves the city will die and it will cost us all dearly.

TG Thorpe - Time it will take to get to Colney you'll be dead.

JS Norwich - MPs as soon as in have turned tables. It is a ridiculous idea to have it out of city.

CS Norwich - To put hospital at Colney is sheer waste of money and should not be allowed. The people of Norwich should be listened to.

AS Norwich - Moving the hospital out of the city would be an environmental and sociological disaster. People should not need to use cars, many elderly and poor people can not use them.

JW - They should not build the N&N hospital at Colney. The old site is more efficient.

JF Bawburgh - No profits for private investors, all available finance to be put into further patient care. Less visitors for patients if located at Colney, at extra cost in bus fares.

VN Norwich - I would like the hospital to stay in Norwich as I sometimes have to attend dermatology every day, the expense of bus fares is prohibitive.

SMB - Keep the N&N in St Stephens.

SB - Definitely keep the hospital in Norwich.

JS - Why destroy a good building - keep it in Norwich.

Mr & Mrs B - The N&N has been the hospital of Norwich for many years and is still in good kilt. It is closer for ambulance and emergency to get to in and around Norwich than Colney. It is pointless spending millions of pounds on a new building which is in a ridiculous location. Why not spend the money on renovating our original hospital.

Mr & Mrs N - The whole community around the present hospital will be scuppered if the heart of the city is ripped out.
- No greenfield site.
- No move needed but thoughtful planning.
- No change of city ?
- No 1970s thinking.
- No pocket-lining for the fat cats.
- OPEN THE ACCOUNTS.

? - I care less where they build the hospital. When I needed urgent medical treatment I have been refused treatment. I am still waiting for my sinus treatment. Certain people are not entitled even if they are living 31 years in the country married to an Englishman born in Norwich.

EW Hethersett - It would be a disaster, recognised certainly by future generations, to site the hospital at Colney. The hospital must be kept in the city for the welfare of Norwich and Norfolk residents. As a member of staff at the N&N the hospital is for the people of Norfolk & Norwich.

LME Norwich - Recent;y I had to visit someone in the N&N - it was convenient to nip in there after work - I didn't have a car at the time. I would not have been able to visit anyone during the week if the hospital was at Colney. I am also very worried about the potential damage to the city centre economy following a move to Colney.

PY Norwich - On our estate there are many older people who cannot drive, it would be horrendous for them to get to Colney, taxis would cost a fortune and buses likewise and probably two different buses will need to be used both ways. Also it is so convenient at the moment to visit friends and family whilst in the city centre. Keep the hospital where it is!

PP Norwich - I used to be in favour of Colney but have now realised that a greenfield site would be destroyed and a huge part of Norwich will die off if the hospital moves from its present site.

AS Norwich - It is far easier for people to travel to and it is a focal point of the city centre.
