I picked up a leaflet from BMA called "Look after our NHS". It was nice to see. The rumour is it was the consultants who where keen on links with UEA BUPA etc and that it was their pressure that made the move happen. Lets hope they have seen the error of their ways.Jim Clark

In today's they are quoting £37.8 million that is nearly 2/3 more(65.7%) than the original figure of £22.8 million. ps. is this sight still current? ie. being updated.

I think a lot of people are confusing the Norwich State Hospital in New England (USA) with the old Norfolk and Norwich hospital in Norwich, Norfolk, UK.... Silly billies. Just to make it clear, this is about the ugly, 1960's dross architecture that looks the same as every shit block of flats everywhere, and is NOT the wonderful looking building featured here: http://www.dobi.nu/norwich/

Went to Chapelfield Shopping Mall today. It is huge with two floors of underground parking. What a splendid site it would have made for a city centre hospital!

i hope whatever you guys are trying to do to keep that hospital around works. it would be a travesty if they mowed it down for some parking lot for foxwoods or mohegan sun.

Granted the site is in disrepair; but there are some beautifully ornate buildings that have immense potential to be something awesome!

i would be furious if they demolished the norwich state hospital,or if they developed the land around it into something else.that takes away from the mysterious, and appalling history that makes the grounds so appealing to explorers and even tourists, although i must say that i have made several trips to the mohegan sun casino, and i only discovered the hospital grounds on a sunday drive. my first impression was that it was an old college campus, but then curiosity got the best of me and i researched it on the web, much to my surprise,i was glad to learn that there was creepy history lurking within 10 miles of where i live. so in conclusion, there is no point of destroying it because no matter how many historical landmarks we demolish, the inhumane past will live on.

Norwich State Hospital is a amazing place and should not be torn down. I was been there many many times, the buildings and insides are truely amazing. But all the people care about is money and not history. I am ready to protest its desturction.

I think that some of the newest buildings should be converted into low income apartments, and leave the old buildings alone!!! The casino took more than enouph property and destroyed it along with the families, the enviornment and the entire town of uncisville. I have been in the buildings on the property and they are truly amazing. That is something you don't sell to make a movie studio or give to the casino.

To have the state hospital would be great. I think that the state is more concerned on how they might loose their money though and openning it to the state won't help fund what they want.

I think that the former Norwich State Hospital is an important part of history and that it should not be torn down. I would rather see the state charge admission for people to tour the former facility.

Very interestingg. I am looking for more sites that identify the pitfalls and disadvantages of PPP's when implemented by uninformed people in government.
Failed PPP's are also a hot topic I wish to identify.
Any help in this area would be grateful.

I THINK IT WOULD BE FOOLISH TO TEAR DOWN THE NORWICH STATE HOSPITAL TO MAKE A PARKING LOT OR COLLEGE OR ANYTHING ELSE,I AM TOTALLY AGAINST IT. IT IS A PART OF HISTORY AND INTERESTING TO READ ABOUT,TAKE PICTURES. I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN ITS KNOWN HAUNTING OF THE PATIENTS WHO WERE THERE. THER ARE REPORTS OF GHOSTS BIENG IN THIS BUILDING. IT MAY SOUND SILLY BUT ITS NOT TO ME. THE CASINO DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE PARKING SPACE FOR THE DAMN CASINO. I WILL FIGHT TO KEEP THE BUILDING UP. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.

I am very interested in the KOHIN campaign and supportive of its work. I am also very keen to get in direct contact with the campaign organisers/supporters. I am currently formulating an MA(social development)thesis proposal on the impact of the PFI with specific reference to the norfolk and norwich hospital and would greatly appreciate meeting individuals who have been directly involved in the campaign to discuss further. I am also interested in finding out recent responses of the campaign to the new hospital. I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Born and bred in Norwich (Valori's Fish & Chips - Timberhill). Now living in Durham. Pennypinching shortfalls of the PFI here are rapidly surfacing, though the new hospital is on same site. Moving N&N to Colney will mean additional, stressful transport needed. Imagine coming in on the bus from Wroxham to visit a friend? Most won't.
    Its all too sad.
Check quality of lights and flooring in theatre, cost of making/receiving phone call for patient, cost to dept for a porter etc etc. Provision of rooms to ALL departments etc.

May I suggest that you view the "Halifax today/ spout n shout" website, there used to be MANY complaints about the hospital that only opened at EASTER and is already 10,000,000 over budget. But that aside the only complaints that are allowed in the paper now it seems, are about parking for staff and patients relatives, I believe the staff have to park approxiamately 1 mile away and then have a shuttle bus (does this sound familiar). Anyway if you would like to check to see what SIMILARITIES there are in these pfi's, I would be happy to help and I would appreciate any information about the NORWICH that you may have, so bye for now and hope to hear from you soon.

So Brown has decided he needs to raise taxes to 'improve' the NHS - and they all fall for it. Is it only you and I who know the real reason - the tax rises are needed to pay for the PFI hospitals - there will be no real increase in spending on doctors and nurses!
