Some Recent Concerns February 2000

Some people have been voicing concerns about the New Hospital at Colney
  1. Basic design. The hospital is based on plans of 15 years ago when the emphasis was on day procedures and there could be a reduction in beds. Since then there have been advances to more intensive operations - and they need beds.

  2. Equipment. Everybody had thought they would be moving into a newly equipped hospital, but no, much of the equipment has to be moved over. But when? And what happens during the time it is being moved? And what do the do about appointments? They will only be able to run a skeleton service. And what happens if it is sensitive stuff that doesn't like being moved. THIS IS A VERY REAL ISSUE - need to ask innocent but searching Qs:

  3. Appointments. People often have appointments for months (or even years) ahead. How do you tell them which hospital to go to - and where?

  4. Volunteer drivers. They fear there will be a shortage of hospital transport - especially for city people - as the volunteer drivers are'nt going to want to make the extra journey. And anyway, more miles means more time, means fewer journeys by the existing drivers.
