I AM A 56 YEAR OLD FEMALE. TWO YEARS AGO I HAD A HEART ATTACK AND HAD A BLOOD SUGAR OF 600. I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS DIABETIC. THEY PUT 2 STENTS IN AT THAT TIME. THREE MONTH LATER THE STENTS WERE 80% BLOCKED OFF AND THEY HAD TO STENT THEM AGAIN. ONE AND A HALF YEAR LATER THE STENTS WERE 80% BLOCKED OFF AGAIN THEY PUT STENTS IN AGAIN. MY DR. SAID IT IS NOT PLACK BLOCKING THE STENTS, MY BODY IS BUILDING NEW TISSUE AND THAT IS BLOCKING THEM OFF. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN I DO TO PREVENT THIS. I THINK MY DR.IS DOING EVERYTHING HE CAN DO.

I have non-ischemic cardiomyapathy with a left bundle branch block and mitral valve prolapse. They don't know how and say possibly a virus attacked my heart. I am on coreg 12.5 twice a day, spironolactone and hydrochlorothiadize. My blood sugar and cholesterol have gone up since taking these medications. I eat mostly fresh vegetables, some chicken and fruit once or twice a day. The coreg has caused weight gain and the other two meds raising of cholesterol. Now they want to give me cholesterol medication. This is so upsetting to me. The meds are causing me more problems and now they want to give me another medication to counteract what these have caused. Is there any better solution? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have noted that your information advises only 2 eggs per week, Why? Recent information states that eggs are advantageous in the production of HDL and need not have these restrictions. As I require a Glutin Free diet, Eggs form a substanial part of my breakfast. I have an overall Cholesterol level of 4.8 and am diabetic (type 2 for 21 years). May be you could explain further as I have now been advised to bring this down below 4. Thanks for your help

Hello I've just filled in the web form for contact on your website and as I wanted to send it, an error occured that said I would have forgotten to fill in my name. That's right, but I do not see a required name field on this site. Please forward this message, I wanted to leave, to the responsible person. Thank you.
Message: Hello My name is Lukas Bernardi and I'm looking for information about direct connections between diet/nutrition and heart attacks for a school report for my girlfriend.
The first question I have is: You can find lots of statistics and articles concerning heart diseases online. Are the reasons for all the different heart diseases (ischemia diseases) related, so that someone can link to these articles for such a report, or is it nescessary to look for special heart attack articles?
On lots of American pages you find information about mediterranean diets,so my question is, whether there is a real remarkable difference between locations and cultures on earth, and if the the number of heart diseases in mediterranean areas is really less because of the special/different food?
I've "googled" some statistics concerning heart diseases so far. Blazingly the number of deaths due to heart diseases decreased by nearly 50% during the last decade in some age groups. If this is true, what is this fact based on? Better enlightenment through the media, better health care?
What I wasn't able to find are statistics of the eastern part of the world like China and so on. Don't they have problems with heart diseases? Do they have ways of alternative medicine to prevent and/or treat heart diseases?
I'm very much looking forward to your answer and thank you in advance.
    Lukas Bernardi. Austria

I have just been told that I have high blood pressure, My husband has been on Lipitor and became very sick from the side effects. He is now taking nothing rather than go through all the oain in his joints from the statins that have been prescribed for him. I suffer terribly from arthritis and the pain from that is enough so of course I am afraid to take any statin as I do not want more problems ie. loss of Q enzymes the same as my husband. My doctor has now suggested that I take this new drug EZETROL. IS IT SAFE? Please can you help, I also watch every morsel that we put in our mouths, whole wheats, and grains no fats, we eat fruit and veg, plus we both do try to be active, Just purchased a stationary bike, will try anything just to get off these medications. She was a heavy smoker for about ten years and just a couple of weeks after finding out about the program that I have researched online, she was able to quit smoking permanently and now can't stop telling people about how she had kicked the habit for good. Hi there. I had an angioplasty last week. The surgeon unlocked one artery that was half blocked but failed to unblock an artery that was occluded, he said that it was impossible and that there was no blood there. Is there a way that an occluded artery can be unblocked? Maybe by diet? I've heard of a garlic and vodka treatment, thats is supposed to eat through the plaque, know anything about that?

I am a 34 year old female. My chlosterol was recently checked and it was 260 total. I was mortified. I am not heavy or overweight at all. I try to stay away from all the bad foods, but I think it is genetic for me to have high chlosterol. I eat chicken 4 times a week and salomon two times a week. I try to eat tons of vegetables and fruits. I recently started exercising about an hour a day. I walk at a fast rate and sometimes run 2-3 times a week. Help! Ia m wanting a low colestrol, low sodium, amd low fat diet for my boyfriend that thinks he is on the way to a heart attack. We do not have the money to get him to see a doctor at a doctors office. So I am hoping to get him to eat right so maybe he will be able to least until the doctor sees him when I get paid again. So if you know of any food that can be for breakfast, luch and dinner that has low colestrol, sodium, and fat in it then I will be most greatful to hear them. He isd the love of my life and I don't want to see he do though a heart attack or loss him to one. His mom add one and his dad dead of one on the kicken floor right in front of him. I do not want to see it. There is enough of senceless death in this world if we can pervent some I say let's do it.

Hello!! Goodmorning, I am raja here. I am coming straight to the point. My mother was having pain in her chest for about two months(not very often). She thought it was minor and she did not care about this. After some time she felt the pain more and went to the general doctor.Doctor initially gave some pills and after that it was paining again so the general doctor gave a reference of Dr.Sundar (Cardiologist). She went there for checking. That doctor tested and gave the pills - sorbitrate 5mg,atorva,metolar,trivedon,colsprin and nitrest for one month. But within 15days she felt the pain again and went to the doctor. Then doctor took the ECG report which was fine and then he asked to come for Treadmill test and that was yesterday 21.05.07. When she went there she was having BP and they gave BP tablet and after some time they took the treadmill test. She was not having pain during treadmill but the doctor said that he found some changes in the ECG report. And after she was told to take rest. When she was trying to get up from the bed (this was after taking 5 to 10 minutes rest) she was having pain. Then doctor asked shall we go for angiogram test. BUt my sister asked the doctor is it necessary to take angiogram test. Then doctor again high dosage for 10days(sorbitrate 5mg to 10mg). Could u please advice me what to do. Becoz i am in Gulf and my mother is in India. Waiting for your reply eagerly. Thanks

Last year I had a cholesterol of 6.2 and was given a diet sheet most of which I already followed, and I thought quite funny as I did not eat fat, visited the gym 3 times a week and did not touch salt. So I thought I would make some other changes, I bought the pro-activ with olive oil spread, started eating a handful of pumpkin, sunflower seeds and walnuts at least five days a week. Started making fruit smoothies with yoghurt at least 5 days a week too. I just had my test and it is 4.9, which I am over the moon with, I will continue with the changes, I now have a small avocado for my lunch and have cut out tea and coffee. I hope this will inspire others to make small changes and improve their cholesterol level.....

My Fathe has just been daignosed with high blood sugar diabetes. I'm not sure what type. Im very worried, because we're anIndian family, and fatty foods are too acceptable in the culture and in the house.I've found some useful sites just now, but my main problem is going to be my Mum and really stressing the dangers of oods to her. They seem to have the answer to everything, like "we dont eat this or that everyday", but the truth is, there's too much fatty, sugary consumption going on.My Dad's 67 and a little overweight, and I dont even know how im going to persuade him to do some exercise.I feel a bit lost, and hope that i can lead by example, change my diet, and stress the need for major changes to take place so that my Dad will be around for as long as possible. I know its all in God's hands and whats meant to be is meant to be, but i also believe that we can fight this high blood sugar diabetes together.. how can stress this to my Mum without it turning nasty or into a joke..??

Hi, I have had a drastic jump in my cholestrol this past year. I have changed to Femara for my cancer drug. I am also taking Diclofenac for inflamation of tendons. I have Fibro. & CFS. I am 7 years out from stage 4 breast cancer. Over the past four months I have been avoiding pork and most beef. I have been eating mostly fish and chicken with lots of veg. & fruit. I have lost 9 lbs. in 8 months. My cholestrol has remained 232 to 240 for several years. Now it is 332. My triglicrids are 315. I had traveled in the car for several days right before the test and had eaten things that I wouldn't normally eat. Could that make a test spike? Should I have it taken again? It's hard for me to believe these have gone up because of food. What else can cause a rise like this? Thanks,

I don't miss the beer so much but don't like a empty stomach when going to bed. I also take about a hour to get to sleep now. I am taking a lot of satain drugs, like 40mg Lipator, 145mg Tri-cor, 40 mg Toporal XL, 160 mg Diovan and 325mg EC aspirin. I had a heart attack 3 years ago and received a stint and quit smoking. The following year I had a gall bladder attack and had it removed. I was in good health and have gained over 25 pounds. I was never told why I was taking all this medicine. I exercise 3 times a week and have taken up yoga lessons. I never took medicine except when I got real sick which was not too often. I am very active and now I perspire a lot and have a lot of gas. Is there something else I can do beside take all these RX? I have gotten some thing from the Health Food store which I intend to start taking. Any help would be appreciated. He is 35 years old and my father died at age 47 of heart desease. Don't know if he's inherited any thing, but want to make sure his diet is what he's supposed to be eating. He's not overweight and has pretty much the last 2 years been eating the weight watcher diet with his wife, so I'm truly surprised at this finding. Please help me with some menu ideas of what he should be eating. Thanx

Hi, had 7.0 cholesterol reading last October following hospital test. Had an electronic reading done at a pharmacy at beginning of April and it was 4.97 - so I felt quite proud that I had managed to reduce it, only to discover on next hospital test reading that it was in fact 6.2 and this last reading only being done a week after the 4.97 result! The pharmacy use a small electronic tester and pinprick from finger but the hospital took a small tube full of blood. I faster for 14 hours prior to all tests. Any comment pl on fluctuation? thanks,
    Faith

Hi,I am 39 yeras ols , male working in a steel co. I put on a lot of wt. in last one year after I stopped playing and went upto 90 Kg. I had no pain from inside but mild pain in the chest when I pressed the fingrs over the chest area at some specific places. normal pulse beat is around 66 and on climbing stairs goes upto 120/min and returns back within 10-15 sec to about 80 and then to normal level. I had an ECG where doctor said everything was normal but had some non-pathological q- wave and to rule out that they recommended first an 2d-echo and if required a tmt. But after 2d - echo they said tmt was not required as readings were absolutely normal. I have reduced 8 kgs in three months by diet control and 45 min brisk walking every day . sometimes specific point pains are there when i press with a finger from outside in chest area but no shortness of breath while waking or pain from inside.i had a hdl of 55, ldl-143 , total cholestrol of 235 , bp- 130/86 and fasting blood sugar of 104. can these point pains be because of artery blockage of are as the doctor said- no-specific muscle pain due to the new exercise schedule. i am confused. pls explain

recently,Ihad a mild heart attack.Echo stress,Angiography has revealed three arteries blockage 90-80-70%.I am on a medication. This happened in India three weeks ago.Now I am back in the UK. Prior to my attack, I was practicing Pranayam and Yoga for 1 hour and half. My diet was vegetarian and very little oily food. My blood report is normal with the cholestrol level of 3.83.There is no abnormality in my blood report and hence a mild attack. Can I excercise, and carry out my breathing pranayam yoga excercise. Any other excercise I can perform?I have already seen my GP who has referred my case to the Cardiologist at Hemel hempstead hospital. Thank you very much,

I am 26 years old and for about 4 months I have been having severe back pain in the middle of my back. Occasionally my left arm aches (maybe two or three times ever) Also I have some kind of heart palpitation which only happens once every couple of months or maybe longer when I have this it takes my breath. Could I have heart disease or maybe have a heart attack I am very worried. Also, one night I went to the ER and had a normal EKG and a normal Catscan of my heart. Blood pressure is always okay.

I am a 57 year old woman with type II diabetis, high chloesterol, and lactose intolerent woman. I have problems walking any distance because I broke my back several years ago and short distances cause extreme pain in my back and leg. I also have neuropathy in my right leg from my diabetis. It is very hard to do much of anything, and I do not eat that much, but cannot take off the weight. I was on steroids for my bronchitus and put on over 50 pounds being on them and cannot get it off. I can't seem to eat a lot because if I do it gives me diarrhea and severe bloating.

I am a fit, slim, healthy 52 yr old lady and had a cholesterol level of 5.8 earlier this year and was told just to eat healthily. I did this and lost a stone which I hadn'intended to, making me very underweight. I decided to eat anything and everything to regain the weight, which I have. As a consequence my cholesterol is now 6.3, which the receptionist at my G.Ps insists is normal and I don't need to do anything. My husband is 50 years old, only slightly overweight and has just been told that he has high cholesterol, high blood sugar and meduim/high blood pressure, not yet severe enough to require medication. I want to help him to sort this out and your dietary advice seemed clear and easy to follow but is there anything further that I could do to help alleviate the blood pressure and sugar problems? I do not know if it is relevant but he suffers from Ankylosing Spondilitis and has been taking anti inflamatories and a buffer for about 14 years, unfortunately this also means that too much exercise is a bit counterproductive.

I am 27 years old with high cholesterol. My cholesterol was checked at the age of 13, and I was told it was high then, and put on a special diet, I am slim, but have a family history of high cholesterol levels and heart attacks. My grandma on my dad's site died of a heart attack at the young age of 40, and she had high cholesterol as well. I often have chest pain, irregular heart beats (fluttering at times), and frequent headaches. My doctor put me on a special diet, which is extremely hard to follow through with, and my cholesterol is checked regularly but continues to be high. I also had some tests ran on my heart, but everything seemed to be okay. If it is, then why am I having these symptoms? Thanks so much.

I have been looking for a site like yours for some time. I was told that my cholesteral reading was 7.7.... I know this is high. The problem is though it's heridetary. I'm 32, don't smoke any more (about 3 years). Is there anything else apart from a sensible diet that I can do to reduce it? I drink vodka and slim line, probably about 14 units a week... Hi, I am 46 years old and I had a complete hysterectomy 4 years ago. Since my surgery I went from 135lbs to a horrible 215lbs. I am taking no hormone replacement therapy. I decided to have my chloresterol checked last week and I am glad I did. My chloresterol and triglycerides were sky high and now I am a little scared! What should I do and what kind of a diet should I go on? I have been reading a lot about thyroid and hearing that thyroid medicine could help me lose weight and put me on the right track. Thank you so very much for reading my e-mail and I look forward to your response.

Hi!! I was just wondering really about my Husbands Cholestrol Levels. He has been told they are 6.9 - is this the highest Cholestrol can go?? Is is in danger of having a heart attack now?? His is 34 and he smoked fro 10 years / he gave up ciggerates one week ago today when he found out his cholestrol was high. He is 14.5 stone and 5ft 9 inches / he is overweight and has had a lot of stress in the last two years / I moved jobs so did he. We sold our ouw house and had a lot of stress buying our own. I had a bit of a breakdown after we lost a baby (miscarraige) Just one month before that he was in a serious accident where he lost a lot of blood and nearly had to have a blood transfusion !!!! Two arterys in the side of his head were severed. He was only in hospital for one night but still very stressful and everything that happened afterwards. He is traveling a long distance to and from work every day. He walks 2 or 3 times a week and also plays golf once a week. We have now upped exercise and are going to start jogging. We have cut out red meat almost completely. The doctor has given him a weeks supply of lippo (spelling) to lower his cholestrol and give him a kick start. Can you let me know what you think of his chances are at the moment. Kind regards,
    Alison Brennan

Seems my liver enzymes are high also, but that's being monitored as I write this. My father is 47 and has terminal heart disease, he is on so much medication, also being taken care of by hospice. I'm 27 years old mysely, I had some test ran and found out all is good for the most part, my cholesterol is 204, i was told to eat less fast food or fried food, so I'm trying to do so. I also has an ehco cardio test done and thet found something on my mitrol valve but said it was too small to tell what exactly it was. They said I should get it checked out every couple of years to see if it's getting bigger. As you can imagine that made me pretty nervous. I am very active, run about 10miles a week and also do weight training. I'm about 5'10 and I weigh about 155 lbs. I'm trying to figure out a better diet for myself so I don't end up like my Father, Do you have any suggestions?

I'm 49, led a very sporting life, eat a very balanced diet, have a sweet tooth, smoke about 2 ciggies per day average, and drink about 2 pints per week, but recently diagnosed with a 7.5 cholestoral level. This is not down to lifestyle but gene related. Initially placed on 10mgs of statins per day to increase to 20mg over next 3 months. Dont think my life style can get much healthier, What advice can be given on cholestoral reducing foods. Thanks

I am a 68 year old grandmother, play tennis and table tennis every week and work in a shop two days a week on a voluntary basis. I also look after my 5 grandchildren at different times aged 15 to 5 years, so you can see I am very active. My chloresterol level was down to 4.7 after many years being around 6.8. However when I finished my tablets (Lipitor) a couple of months ago I had 2 or 3 days without them and felt more energetic and better altogether. However after having a blood test the other day after 2 months without medication it had gone up to 7 which shocked me. I stick to a pretty good diet "mostly" as much as I can but your sensible diet will help me be much more aware of the correct food to eat daily. My doctor has put me on (Ezetrol)as other medications have adverse effects on me.So thank you for your information.

i actually have a question about my mom who is 53. Her insurance recently went up cause they said she had high blood pressure and high cholesterol, the kind that causes coranary heart disease. My question is, does this mean that she already has clogged arteries? and if so, is it reversable? i'm worried and am taking this serious because i lost my dad 2 years ago to a sudden massive heart attack! we had no idea he wasn't healthy. I will take every measure to make sure this doesn't happen to my mom and i know she will too. ( she does have several aunts who battle high cholesterol )

My father has recently been diagnosed with high cholestorol and clogging of the arteries, as well as a multitude of other assocated problems. He is overweight and has been ordered to lose two stone. The main problem is he does virtually no exercise and his diet is a disgrace! I am at a total loss how to help him achieve this since my parents' diet consists of pastries, cakes, pies, potatoes and mince! They do not eat, and will not try, fruit, pasta, rice or any other 'foreign' type food. Help!

I'm absolutely dumbfounded. I'm 40 years old and never felt fitter in my life. I regularly run distances of up to half a marathon and swim a mile probably 4 times a week. I am obsessed by eating healthily, vegetables, salads, fish, fruit and nuts; I juice fruit and veg every day, use only extra virgin olive oil, do not have a sweet tooth at all, i rarely eat red meat. read loads of literature on all this kind of stuff and really conscious about it.etc.
HOWEVER, just received results of medical I had pre christmas and been diagnosed with high cholestorol (mg/dl 231 or mmol/L 5.98) I'm not entirely sure what these figures refer to but am informed they're high. I try to avoid 2 of my 3 vices, cheese and potato crisps, reasonably successfully and certainly eat them less than most people i know. i do drink more than i should but am not aware this alcohol is responsible for high cholestorol. In fact i've been informed that it can actually reduce bad cholesterol. Basically i'd really appreciate some advice on all this. Thanks a lot.

Dear Sir, I read a report some time ago that if one's HDL was 25% (or above)of the overall cholestoral reading, one would be safe from CHD.Is there truth in this statement?? I hope this is true,as I have found it is easier to increase HDL by diet and excersise than it is to reduce LDL.I HAVE ALSO READ OF SOME DANGERS RELATED TO REDUCING LDL.!! I really look forward to your comments. A very interesting site Thank you.

Hello there, despite me taking statins my recent blood test came back showing that my Cholestrol is above 7.0. This is unacceptable at the best of times but as I have confirmed angina my doctor tells me this is not on. He has changed my medication and hopefully this will help reduce the cholestrol levels. I cannot understand because I am very careful with my diet which appears to conform with your recommended diet. However,I do have two glasses of white wine per day, is this likely to raise my cholestrol? I have been told that my liver produces bad cholestrol. Can you explain this to me please?. And I would also like to know whether excise is an effective way of reducing levels, bearing in mine that I am 65 years old (I do walk). I look forwarding to hearing from you keep up the good work.

My partner has beensuffering from work related stress and has been having severe headaches so went today for an eye test. They said his eyes had white spots which is a sign of high cholestoral levels. I think I give him a good diet of chicken fresh vegetables, salad, tuna, pasta no roasts. I always steam vegetables, no gravy, use emlea and not cream. He does not drink alcohol only occasionally. He does drink a lot of coffee and 2sugars but that is all. He is a heavy smoker but going to try to give up. I wonder what I can do to lower his cholestoral levels. He doesn't like fish and never eats fruit. Very frustrated and concerned for the future! I have relatively high cholestral levels with a total count of 5.9 with high LDL levels. I am not on cholestral lowering drugs but I know Statins work. I have tried the low fat diet and exercise but no joy. I do believe this is a hereditary condition as there is a history of heart conditions in my family. I am 36 and do not want to take statins as I fear for the long term affects and find it difficult to tolerate the side effects. Can you please advise anything that may reduce my LDL levels without taking medication. Many thanks.
